Capstone, APE, and Internship Resources – Faculty Advisors

Faculty advisors play an incredibly important role in our students’ journey as they complete their integrative learning experience and applied practice experience.

Faculty advisors are assigned at least two semesters prior to students’ internship. For most students, this will be at the end of their first year. In addition to offering support to the student in the development of plans of study, advising students on career options in public health, and working with the MPH program staff and director to ensure the success of all students, faculty advisors have specific roles and responsibilities as students complete the courses that encapsulate Capstone, APE, special projects, and internship.

Faculty Advisor Roles and Responsibilities

– Faculty Advisor does not need to outline or approve Capstone Projects. However, we do highly recommend talking with your student about their project ideas before the semester begins. This will increase the likelihood of the student’s success.

– Faculty Advisor does not need to sign off on or track progress of Capstone Projects  this is done by the instructor of PHC 6940.

– Faculty Advisors attend Public Health Day and grade the Public Health Day presentations as presented by their advisees.
