Parvathy Prasanna Surendran, a University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions Master of Public Health student, has been selected for the Pathways to Practice Scholars program.
Sponsored by the Region IV Public Health Training Center, the Pathways to Practice Scholars program provides public health students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in underserved communities, working alongside veteran public health practitioners who serve as mentors.
Through her field placement with the Florida Department of Health in Collier County, Surendran, an M.P.H. student with a concentration in epidemiology, can apply her classroom knowledge to real-world public health challenges.
“I am truly excited about the prospect of gaining practical, competency-based field placement experiences in Florida DOH-Collier County,” Surendran said. “This award not only provides me with the chance to contribute meaningfully to underserved populations and communities but also aligns with my commitment to making a positive impact in the field of public health.”
In addition to her field placement, Surendran also receives a $3,500 stipend.
“The living allowance award is immensely appreciated and will undoubtedly support me in fully engaging with and benefiting from this valuable experience,” she said. “I am eager to learn, grow, and contribute to the program’s goals. I am looking forward to making the most of this experience.”
