Melanie Hechavarria recently received the MPH Exemplary Student Award for demonstrating exceptional performance during her time in the MPH program. Exceptional performance is manifested by excellent academic performance, service to others, leadership, and an apparent dedication to public health. Melanie was selected by a panel of MPH alumni.
Melanie graduated with her Master’s in Public Health concentrating in Social and Behavioral Sciences. She has served as a distinguished leader and advocate for public health through her work creating and implementing international community-based public health programing for Projects for Haiti Global, working with the local Area Health Education Center as a scholar committed to learning and advocating for underserved rural populations, and launching a fundraiser for the Southern Birth Justice Network which raised over $2,300.
