HealthStreet, a UF community-based effort, accepts applications for student interns year-round. HealthStreet, founded by Linda B. Cottler, PhD, MPH, Department Chair of Epidemiology and Dean’s Professor of Epidemiology, is affiliated with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at UF. Community Health Workers engage residents in the community and at HealthStreet at 2401 SW Archer Road. They discuss their health concerns, health problems and needs for services. This information becomes the basis for offering the opportunity to participate in relevant research, and to receive referrals to health and social services.
HealthStreet is a successful model of community engagement funded by the NIH that is being replicated internationally. We offer 1st year or advanced students a customized practicum or internship experience that will provide training in community outreach and engagement such as, networking with community agencies or neighborhood groups, sponsoring prevention activities through HealthStreet, or engaging in a targeted data analysis.
